Charlie Chaplin - Smile

"Smile"
(originally by Nat King Cole)

Smile though your heart is aching,
Smile even though it's breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky,
You'll get by,
If you smile through your pain and sorrow,
Smile and may be tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shining through, for you,
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness,
Although a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.
Ooh, oh, oooh, mmm, ooh yeah
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile,
Smile though your heart is aching,
Smile even though its breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky,
You'll get by,
That's the time you must keep on trying, (keep on tryin')
Smile, what's the use of crying? (whats the use of crying)
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile,
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile, smile.

Q : Who wrote the lyrics to smile?
A : Smile (Charlie Chaplin song) "Smile" is a song based on an instrumental theme used in the soundtrack for the 1936 Charlie Chaplin movie Modern Times. Chaplin composed the music, while John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title in 1954.
I really love this song. Although it's a short song, but the lyrics really moved me. Actually, I knew this song from watching a TV musical series : Glee. And by the time I heard this song, it made me really comfortable. The lyrics are so good and true.

We can see from the lyrics above that this song tells us to smile even in the hardest situation in life. Even when we want to burst into tears, even when we think we couldn't do it anymore, we have to smile. We have to do that because our sadness will surely passed. This song also tells us to keep trying and give our best, because the result would be worth the pain. And we should not living our life with sadness all over, but with our best smile.
Although it's a short song and the lyrics are repeated, I never get bored. I found this song as a cheer-up song when I'm sad or blue. I think this song delivered its message successfully in a simple way. Because I often linger in sadness and that's not good, and this song really comforts me. This song really can cheer us when we're sad, so listen to it at least once.

The point is, to SMILE :)

Dewa Athena

What are you thinking when first hearing the word "Athena"? Is it the goddess of wisdom like in Greek Mythology?

Goddess Of Wisdom, Athena

No, apparently, it isn't. Dewa Athena is an event held by my school, SMAN 3 Bandung. It is basically a sport championship. This year, it was held from March, 10th to 12th 2016. Dewa Athena was being held in Bali Sports Field from morning until noon around 1 until 2 o'clock.

Those sports that are contested are :
  • soccer
  • basketball
  • volley
  • tug-of-war
  • badminton
  • dodgeball
  • relay race
  • and a traditional game called "Gobak Sodor". But before the event started, we have to send representation from our class for every sports that are being held.
So, at the first day, we felt (kinda) excited because there would be many fun match to watch. The first sport championship was the basketball championship. Our class played in the 3rd turn. And it was so exciting to watch. We all supported our players and we won!

But after basketball match, we began to separate because there are other sport matches that had to be followed at the same time.

As for me, I got a chance to played in Relay Race. The Relay Race Team consisted of 4 people, which were Haifa, Najmi, Radhin, and me. We sure did all the best we could, but unfortunately we lost. Our team lost by 1 second because we almost win :( . Seriously.

So, after that, some of my friends and I began to watch our friend’s matches. We watched dodgeball match but unfortunately we lost. We were lost by 1 point. Again.

*sad faces*

We watched volleyball match which was really fun. We cheered from the end of the sportfield with really loud voice to kept our friends spirits to finish the game. But the result was still unclear at the time. So we still didn’t know who’s winning.

*another sad faces*

Oh, we didn’t watch badminton match because my friend said not to watch. She said that it was because she didn’t want to lose concentrate when playing, so she said it was better to came out with a victory. And yes, THEY WIN (it was a double match)! Yeah well they were actually lose at the 2nd round but it’s okay.

*smiling faces*

Why? Because it doesn’t matter who’s the winner. The only thing that matters is our struggle to give everything we have. And as long as we give the best we could do, the results would be worth it. :)

Education To  A Better Future

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and directed research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners may also educate themselves. Education can take place in formal or informal settings and any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational.

Education in Indonesia is commonly divided into stages from preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, and then college or university. Indonesia has an education program that we already know, which is “Wajib Belajar 9 Tahun” or 9-year compulsory education. That means that we have to be educated at least until junior high school. That is our country’s ideal goal right now.

But I think, we have to step up our goal now. Today is a globalization era, we could keep up with what happens in another country and we have to compete with them at almost everything in order to create our own prosperous country. As one of a country’s generation, here is some of my advice.

First, direct students into their interest since the beginning. I think we should start this one from preschool or kindergarten. To create a successful generations, we have to make them like what they do, and it can only be done if they are interested with it. So, find their interest using skill-building toys or activities such as toy oven, xylophone, blocks, drawing, singing, and more. We can do that in a fun way in kindergarten. And also, it is a good way to see children’s interest since children at that age have high curiosity. The earlier we begin, the faster we could see our dream come true.

Second, make school activities more fun and somewhat related to daily lives. It is to create an illustration in the next stage of the children’s life. We can play a game where they can experience various jobs or professions. The point is to make experience as many as we can so that our country’s generation know what to do in their next stage of life. I think it’s important to help them know the ideal of successful life.

Lastly, increase religious activities as effective as possible. We should prepare our generation to succeed not only in life, but also in the afterlife. Of course we could not guarantee it, but at least they have to know about the importance that life is not everything and cleverness is nothing without a strong faith. We must have faith and belief in something, because it is meant to straighten our road of life. I know a quote “Belajar tanpa berdoa itu sombong, berdoa tanpa belajar itu bohong”. In English, it means studying without praying is cocky, while praying without studying is a lie. I agree with it because we were given knowledge by God, so we should be grateful by praying to God. But if we only pray without doing anything,of course we get nothing. So, both of them must be balanced.

I think that’s enough of an opinion. I’m sorry if there are mistakes that I made. And, thank you. :)
